Doughnuts at school

One of my daughters has a double lesson at school today. It might be a sign of getting old that I was shocked last night when she informed me that she was taking doughnuts to school today because the pupils had a rota to bring in cake for this double lesson. What is the point of the school timetabling double lessons if the teacher feels that the lesson has to be stopped after 40 minutes in order to have a break? Surely having a break is going to be disruptive and the teacher is going to have to settle the class down as they get sugar-rush after eating their cake. I remember having double lessons when I was a teenager and we managed without a break.
