Week ending 30 November in review

Family

My daughters' school was closed for a teacher training day on Friday. Having not been able to visit my parents during the half-term holiday due to work commitments, we took the opportunity to go see them for the weekend. I could not call it a long weekend because the combination of my wife and daughters spending most of the morning at the stables along with traffic congestion extending our journey to six hours, we did not arrive until early evening. We also had to leave at lunchtime on Sunday because my daughters were playing volleyball in the evening. We did manage to spend Saturday at my parents and my brother and sister brought their families over in the evening for a family meal.

Sport

Running

As I was at my parents on Saturday, I took the opportunity to a different parkrun. The nearest one to my parents' house is Cuerden Valley which some of the local runners described as the toughest parkrun in the North West. With seven climbs in 5km they might be right about that and my time certainly reflected it being harded than my local parkrun, as I finished in 26:27.

Volleyball

As an incentive to go up to Lancashire, I had suggested to my daughters that we go watch City of Salford play in the National Cup, as they have never seen a womens Super 8 team play. Unfortunately they still have not seen a Super 8 team play, as the away team forfeited the match. By this time, I had already agreed to referee the club's second team play in the National Shield. It was a good match with Darkstar going two sets up before City of Salford recovered to win 3-2.
